New Layout

Well...

I am very blessed!
  • Owen has (I'm whispering right now, so I don't jinx anything) eaten at 10 pm the last two nights...and then only woken up at 5 am to eat again! SHHHH!!!!

So, I have time right now to update my blog layout. I added a blog list to the right. If you don't want your blog listed there, please let me know. I'll take it off. It's mostly there for me so that I can find you while I am not at home with my favorites list.

Anywho...I need to get some clothes on and get Caleb ready for school.

Today is Owen's sonogram. I'll let you know about all of that later. Have a fabulous day!

Owen's 2 Week Stats

Wednesday was Owen's 2 week checkup with Dr. P. It was fine and dandy. He (doc P) asked if I had leaded breast milk. Why? Because my baby boy grew 1/2 inch in 2 weeks...and... he was born weighing 6# 10 oz...left the hospital at 6# 3.5 oz...and on Thursday weighed in at 7# 3 oz! He had gained an entire pound!!! WOWEEE!!! Yup...leaded breast milk sold here!

My 2 week checkup was on Thursday. Everything is gorgeous and peachy. My incision looks no bigger than a pencil line (about 5 inches long).

We are both free to travel on the 30th for our long awaited trip to Ohio.

Pictures coming soon. Look for them.

Plus, the boys and I might go to Unidad park on Saturday. Brant has to work ALL day...so, the morning might just be a great time to take my boys and get some pictures done, too. Oh, I wish Jenny was here...and free. :) Just kidding about the free part.

Sorry that I've been MIA on the blog-front...who knew nursing a newborn and loving on him would keep me from the computer several days in a row?!

Not so much

Did you know that it is against the law err... policy to bring children to the region center?

Me neither. I had planned on having Owen with me today and Friday for the inservice bits I needed to fulfill my trade day credits. However, I was told I had to leave as I had a child with me and they could not make exceptions.

I cried.

I've been more and more prone to that little bit of motherhood-ness. And I don't like that part of it. It's usually the happy, I love life, type...but not so much today.

and then...I was mad that I was crying and cried more.

So, instead, Jenni and I spent the morning at the library and HEB. Just out. Walking. It was quite nice.

And Owen was... perfect. He is STILL sleeping. I tried to feed him at about 10-ish (at the library)...but he wasn't have much of that. Just a little nibbling and a big burp and then out. He's been out pretty much since 8:15 this morning.

Ah...well... my HEB Chinese food is calling. So is a nap. This being teary wears me out. Plus, if I don't "drain" soon, I just might explode (read: milk everywhere).

Ta-ta! (as in bye-bye --- not boob-boob. :0) LOL!!!)

Settling in

We are in a pretty good routine...in this, our 2nd week with Owen. The hardest part is keeping myself "drained" enough. I still haven't called La Leche to see about donating. Seriously. I get 8 ounces at each pumping session. I am trying to limit that to twice a day. I don't want to encourage any OVER production. :)

Owen still sleeps most of the day and night. He is awake about 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. He's not focusing on anything yet, but he does turn to our voices. I am very much looking forward to the time when he can interact more...but I am relishing this tiny baby time, too.

We've got appointments this week. I didn't realize how much was planned for this week. Today, we are going to a funeral for a friend that works at school. Her mother passed away finally, after a heart problem that took her down quickly, but she held on for nearly a month. Tomorrow and Friday, I have inservice things at the region center. I am planning on staying all day...with Owen. We'll see how that fairs after tomorrow. Wednesday is Owen's 2 week checkup and Thursday is my checkup.

Brant and Caleb leave next Friday for Ohio. I can't believe that time is already here!!! I am so excited and not prepared at all! Owen and I (pending his checkup and all) will fly out on Monday, the 30th.

So, yes...we are settling in to a routine and getting back into our life. Thanks, friends for all of the attention and visitation so far. I've loved it!

Visitors

Ladies, I am trying to figure out a way for seph to come over...

J, could you call her and give her my number?

Everyone - Please call and come see me. I LOVE visitors.

I am going out and doing things... I'm one of those mama's that takes her newborn everywhere.

In fact, Sabrina and I are getting free facials and makeovers or whatever at the mall on Thursday. Yahoo!

Today was Owen's due date. I can't believe this little man is already a week old. It's insane how much I love him.

Owen-isms

Ahhhh...I'm back! Brant is at work. Caleb is at day care. Owen and I are alone. Hanging out at home. What a true blessing! This is the first real chance I've had to sit in front of the computer for any length of time. I'm all caught up on everyone's blogs and comments...and now is the time to post a few Owen-isms (this first of many of this kind, I'm sure).
  • Owen is SUCH an easy baby! I hope not to jinx anything...but seriously! He sleeps all the time. Is only awake to eat. He fusses when he's hungry and when getting his diaper changed. That's it!
  • He is a peeing machine. I've been "showered" more times than I can count. In the middle of the night, at random times during the day, whenever.
  • He is a heck of an eater. My milk came in before we left the hospital on Thursday. (people - that's less than 48 hours after birth!). Since then, he eats every 2.5 - 4 hours. Sometimes he nibbles and makes a royal mess before deciding to get serious. (On the milk issue - know anyone that needs breast milk? Seriously. I have pumped in-between feedings a few times, already, to relieve the "rocks" built up. I got 5 ounces, 8 ounces, and 5 ounces. The dairy farm has arrived in full! - pun intended)
  • He is the snuggle-y-ist baby! And SO beautiful! I know I am biased - but, come on! He looks like a doll. And dressing him up is so tempting...and fun. He and Caleb are twins - with a three-year age difference.
  • He has diaper rash already. :o( This makes me sad. I think (thanks to a comment from a friend) that it has to do with the amount of fruit intake on my part. (I wanted to *ahem* get things moving - easily ... as I had MAJOR issues with that after Caleb was born - and have been a fruit-a-holic.). It's so sad to see his cutie-patootie hiney red and irritated. Thank goodness for Beaudreaux's Butt-paste.
  • When he nurses, Owen goes ALL out. I mean, he straightens and stiffens his legs and spreads out his long-piano-playing-toes like you would when showing off your hand-span. He grips my fingers (if they are within reach) or balls them up super tight.
  • He is already lifting his head. As in, he's arching his back to get his head higher. Truly amazing!

I love being a second time mommy. There IS enough love in your heart to love your husband (now more than ever), and BOTH children. It's amazing.

I am a complete emotional wreck. The good kind, though. I look at Brant and start to cry - happy tears - at how much he loves me, and BOTH of our boys. I look at Caleb - asking if he could kiss or hold Owen because he's crying. Or when Caleb brought Owen a stuffed puppy because he was whimpering (by the way - that puppy has not left Caleb's bed since Kristy brought it to him as a congrats on being a big brother gift). Or when we picked up Caleb from daycare on Thursday, Brant brought in Owen - in his car seat - to show him off to the teachers and kids. The 3 and 4 year-old's in Caleb's class gathered around the car seat and oohed and awed and did not touch him. Caleb was in the back of the pack and said, "that's MY baby." Tears flowed uncontrollably then, as they do now while typing that moment.

I am so in love. It's amazing.

Meet Owen Sterling

Owen was born at 4:57 pm on Tuesday, June 3rd.
He weighed in at a tiny 6 pounds, 10 ounces.
He's 19 and a half inches long.
He looks just like his big brother, Caleb...except, he has dark brown/black hair.
He's been a laid back, somewhat lazy baby so far. He didn't choose to eat until after his
circumcision this morning at 9:00.
He has the sweetest, high-pitched cry.
He has long fingers and toes (really long - piano playing, even).
We are completely in love with him. Happy Birthday, baby!!!
